Your Toothbrush Buying Guide Best dentist in Tijuana

Choosing the right toothbrush is more important for oral health than you think. With crowded toothbrush aisles nowadays, it can be overwhelming choosing one. This is the toothbrush buying guide you might need!

Dentist’s number one rule: brushing your teeth twice a day, for two minutes straight.  But with crowded toothbrush aisles nowadays, it can be a bit overwhelming to know exactly which one to buy. We normally look for brands, colors or prices, but there are other specific things that you should be paying attention to that have a greater impact on our daily brushing.

Today, we are focusing on 5 different topics that need to be discussed to choose the best fitting brush for your teeth and achieve the perfect brushing.

First off and probably most important is the size of the head of your toothbrush, since it can affect the quality of your brushing. Brush heads come in a variety of sizes, but the best size is a head that’s one inch tall and half an inch wide. This should allow you to clean the top, front, and back of your teeth with the greatest reach for maximum cleaning. Larger head brushes can make small spaces between your teeth difficult to reach. Aiming for a small size head and combining it with flossing can give you better outcomes when it comes to brushing and oral hygiene.

Another important issue that you should look into is bristles. Yep, there are different types of bristles even though they might look the same. They come in three different types – soft, medium, and hard. Since teeth are very sensitive, soft nylon bristles are almost always the way to go, only changing if your dentist tells you overwise. They are designed to brush and not damage our teeth, even if we press too hard. The softer the better!

Now an important question, rounded or straight bristles? While it may not seem like a big deal, the shape of your brush’s bristles actually has a huge impact on your oral health. Rounded bristles protect your gums from inflammation and infections since they have a gentler effect on them, it’s a myth that bristles should be hard and stiff to be effective.

Now, ADA approval! Just like toothpaste brands, the American Dental Association assigns its seal of approval to toothbrushes. It is always best to buy a toothbrush that’s been approved by the ADA since it certifies that your toothbrush has gone through strict testing to ensure that it provides the best cleaning and safety for your mouth.

Last but never least important, and maybe the most common question is ‘’manual or electric toothbrush’’? Choosing between one or the other totally depends on your personal preference. They both do an excellent job cleaning your teeth. The most important factor is that you brush your teeth correctly. The biggest factor for some people is cost, but if you can afford it go ahead!

It is important to put some thought into how you care for your teeth. You can always ask our doctors at I Love My Dentist for any options they may have for you and your teeth specifically. Call (619) 452 2823 and schedule your dental check-up!
