However, 2020 and 2021 have been unique times to cross borders all over the world.
Nonetheless, as of November 8, 2021, non-essential travel from Tijuana to San Diego resumed for fully COVID19 vaccinated foreign travelers.
Despite all the misinformation, the Mexican border closure did not affect U.S. citizens at all.
As a matter of fact, U.S. citizens were able to cross into Tijuana for non-essential travel, such as vacations, foodie excursions, and yes, even dentist visits.
Yes, people came to the dentist in Tijuana during 2021
Studies showed that relaxation, value, and convenience are benefits that drive people to travel to Mexico in 2021.
Additionally, the fact is that U.S. patients come to the dentist in Tijuana for affordable and high-quality dental treatments.
Consequently, dental tourism was a high-value and convenient travel for U.S. patients during this period.
Lastly, the number of treatments, patient visits, and new patients in 2021 grew compared to 2019 and 2020.
But considering that 2020 was the start of the pandemic, we consider 2019 as comparable.
Benefits of coming to the dentist in Tijuana in 2022, what you need to know
We know that crossing the border sometimes may be overwhelming, nevertheless, we have some tips that may come in handy when coming to our dental office in Tijuana.
Here are 5 tips you need to know when coming to the dentist this year:
1.-If you want to cross back quickly to the U.S., ask for a medical pass for the fast lane.
When crossing back to San Diego, one of the major benefits that Tijuana has to offer for U.S. patients is the fast lane medical pass.
If you are a patient of ours, you can save time by asking for a medical pass and save over 2 to 3 hours of waiting time when crossing by car.
Now, if you are walking back across, this pass does not apply. Waiting time can be from 10 minutes, up to 1 hour, this may vary daily.
In addition, it is important to know that these medical passes are sold to our dental clinic by the local government.
Therefore, we highly recommend planning your travel back to the U.S. too, by asking for your medical pass.
Considering this tip will make your complete travel even easier and helpful when you visit us.
2.-Do you need a passport or visa to cross into Tijuana?
Do you need a passport?
The answer is no, you don’t need a passport to cross the border from the U.S. to Tijuana.
While you don’t need it, we do recommend having a passport for any type of travel.
As travel.state.gov explains, without a U.S. passport, you may be slowing down the lines and increasing your wait time.
They go on to say that by having a passport card, you save time by using designated Ready Lanes.
In addition, when traveling to Mexico, randomly you may be asked if you have your passport or an official I.D. with you, so we recommend having one or the other.
Finally, crossing back, CBP officials may ask for them and probably you’ll need them to verify your citizenship.
In short, having a passport with you is a great idea, especially when traveling south of the border.
Do you need a visa?
The answer is no, but you do need to consider a visitor permit.
Mexperience.com explains that U.S. visitors may need a permit known as an FMM (Forma Migratoria Multiple, in Spanish).
Furthermore, they add by saying that, if you arrive in Mexico by land, this permit can be purchased at the port of entry.
This is where patients who drive or are walking across may be asked by an official if they already have a permit.
But you and we already know in advance that you do need it, so take the time to review this information and make the best decision possible.
Taking this tip into account will allow you to cross the border safely, quickly, and with a legal status, which we highly recommend.
Furthermore, the average cost is $25, but there are different types of permits.
Let the official know the exact dates of your visit to Mexico.
Permit prices may vary depending on the days you are visiting Mexico.
To know more about this permit, and obtain it online please visit the official site here.
3.-Do you need a vaccination status card or a negative COVID-19 test to cross the border?
When crossing by land, to this day the answer is no.
It’s important to let you know that foreigners who plan to visit the U.S. are required to be vaccinated.
As a result, having their official vaccination card when crossing the border is a must.
However, if you are a U.S. citizen, it is most probable that you won’t be asked for a vaccination status.
So far, U.S. citizens who come to Mexico do not need to submit this type of documentation.
However, this does not mean that we do not encourage vaccination. We support vaccination.
Important things to know
In addition, as of January 5, 2022, the State Commission for Protection Against Health Risks (COEPRIS by its initials in Spanish) is requiring establishments to ask people for a vaccination status when entering.
Because of a recent matter, we will be informing additional information as authorities release more information.
If you are traveling by air to Mexico, the CDC mandates that before boarding a flight to the United States, you are required to show a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 1 day before travel.
This started on December 6, 2021, as CNN reported that all American air travelers 2 and older returning to the US need a negative Covid-19 test taken within one day of their departing flight, regardless of vaccination status.
It’s part of a general tightening of US travel rules because of the Omicron variant of Coronavirus.
Last but not least, it is important to inform you that masks and antibacterial gel are required when entering any establishment in Tijuana, additionally to a vaccination status as of
